There is a great dilemma in our day as to the truth about Creation—whether it is really what the cosmic theory has presented to us or what the Creator Himself has told us in the Bible. The problem is that no single element of the theory of popular science corresponds to the creation that God made.
To examine this, we will briefly compare the principles of Bible Creation from Gen. Chap. 1 and 2 with the “scientific” cosmic theory.
1. A work of creation:
Bible: The Bible declares that God created heaven and earth. Gen. 1:1; Isa. 45:12; 42:5; Jer. 32:17.
Modern science: The “scientific” theory claims that since the initial Big Bang, millions of stars were born, and these stars have been grouped into thousands of galaxies. This theory asserts that there was a powerful explosion of super energy and matter, collected in a very small particle, and from this explosion, the stars have their origin. However, no scientist can tell where the initial particle of matter and the energy come from.
2. A literal Creation week:
Bible: The Bible declares that God’s acts of creation were accomplished in six literal days, and He rested on the seventh. Gen. 1; Gen. 2:1-4; Ex. 20:11.
Modern science: The “scientific” theory claims that the generation of heaven and earth has been going on for billions of years.
3. A carefully planned work:
Bible: The Word of God declares that the creation of heaven and earth is a definite, special, planned project of God Himself. Neh. 9:6; 1 Cor. 8:6; Rev. 4:11.
Modern science: The “scientific” theory claims that the earth came into existence by chance, as one of billions of planets in the open space.
4. The creation of the earth is complete and finished:
Bible: In Genesis Chap. 2, verses 1 and 2, it is stated that God finished the creation of heaven and earth in six literal days; i.e. creation does not continue after those six literal days. See also Col. 1:16; John 1:1-3; Rom. 1:20.
Modern science: The “scientific” theory claims that the universe is expanding and new stars, planets, and galaxies continue to appear. This happens every day. In other words, the creation of heaven and earth is not finished.
5. An immovable foundation:
Bible: The Bible gives us the following precise facts about Creation: at first, the earth was void and God put it on a firm foundation that is immovable and does not shake, tilt, or rotate. Micah 6:2; Zech. 12:1; Ps. 104:5.
Modern science: The “scientific” theory claims that the earth is not placed on a foundation but hangs in open space. The Earth moves and rotates at enormous speed – around its axis and in several other ways and paths. The Earth is said to circle around the sun at about 67,000 mph, to spin on its axis at about 1,000 mph. The Solar System moves through the Milky Way at an average speed of 514,000 mph. The Milky Way galaxy moves through space at 1,300 000 mph.
6. A solid Firmament:
Bible: The Bible declares that on the second day, God created the most important element of the heaven-and-earth complex, of this interconnected system: He made the Firmament above the earth. The Firmament, according to the Bible, covers the whole surface of the earth. It is a very hard, solid, and transparent structure, like a precious stone, or a molten looking glass. A firm structure, a pavement of sapphire stone, and a crystal – this is how the Bible describes it.
The Firmament was formed with the aim of holding the vast amount of water taken from the surface of the earth and placed above it on the second day of the Creation week. The Firmament and the water above it are the special protective capsule that ensures ideal and special conditions for life on the earth below. God created the earth as a vast plain and He spread it out at length and width. Job 37:18; Ez. 1:26; 10:1; Ex. 24:10.
Modern science: The “scientific” model claims that the earth has no firmament, nor any water above it. Instead, there is an “atmospheric vacuum”. The shape of the earth is a globe, which is entirely different from the far-spread plain of the Bible account. It has no foundation and moves in several ways.
7. The heavenly bodies are confined within the Firmament:
Bible: The Bible declares that not until the fourth day, God created the lights – sun, moon, and stars, to direct time and seasons. All of these lights were placed within the Firmament. It is they that move and circle within the Firmament, above the earth, to serve for the life on the earth below. Gen. 1:14-19; Ps. 19:1-6; Jer. 31:35.
Modern science: The “scientific” theory claims that the sun and moon are powerful, huge stars the attractive force that makes the earth revolve around the sun. The earth moves in several ways in open space, and not under a firmament of heaven.
According to “scientific” data, the sun is at a distance of 93 million miles from the Earth, and the moon is at a distance of 238,885 miles from the Earth. These things are totally missing and contradict the Biblical account.
8. The heavenly bodies were made in one day – the fourth day of the Creation week:
Bible: The Bible declares that God created first the earth and the Firmament and then, on Day 4, He formed the sun, moon, and stars that started circling above the earth. Gen. 1:14-19.
Modern science: The “scientific” theory claims that first appeared the stars, including the sun, in a period of millions of years, and at some point, somewhere in the boundless space was formed the earth also, as a speck of dust among the numberless host of space.
The Bible declares that all stars, and also the sun and the moon, are close to us because they are within the Firmament. Ps. 19:4-6.
The “scientific” theory says that the closest star in the open space (our sun) is 93 million miles away from the Earth.
9. A young earth:
Bible: The Bible gives evidence that heaven and earth have existed for about 6,000 years. (A calculation of how much time had passed from Creation to the Flood can be made based on the generations given in Gen. chap. 5.)
Modern science: The “scientific” theory claims that the cosmos has existed for 13,7 billion years and the earth is about 4,5 billion years old.
10. Man is not a fruit of coincidence:
Bible: The Bible declares that man is the crowning act of God’s creative work and he was made in the likeness of God, and that he is not the result of some coincidence, based on lower-ranking living beings, but a creature made in the image of God Himself. Gen. 1:26; Jer. 29:11; Eph. 1:4-6; 2:10; Heb. 2:5-11.
Modern science: The “scientific” theory claims that man came into existence through millions of years of evolution and natural selection, from the monkey.
