Evidence That The Earth Is Not A Globe

It has been stated that either the globe theory or the earth being a plane can be proven and sustained by the Scripture. In several other articles, we have aimed to prove the Bible’s conception of the earth being an enclosed system. The verses given there are enough to silence any opposition and utterly refute the globe theory. (See Job 38:8-14; Ps. 74:17; Isa. 48:13).

Now we are going to start examining the true laws of science and mechanics which can be found in the infallible Word.

The globe model

As schoolchildren, we were taught that the diameter of the earth is 8,000 miles and the circumference of it is about 25,000 miles. According to this model, it is necessary for the earth to form a curvature of 8 inches per mile. This is a number, acknowledged by all navigators and astronomers who support the Newtonian theory.

We don’t need to stop and prove that three-fourths of the supposed globe is covered with water. But if we stick to this theory, we must assume that three-fourths of the globe’s surface conforms to that 8-inch curve.

Regardless of whether these waters are in a lake, sea, or ocean, whether a particular body of water is 1 inch deep or 3 miles in depth, whether it weights a feather or 1,000 tons, whether it is located at the so-called poles of the globe where their movement could be only half the motion of the hour-hand of the clock, or at the equator where they would move with 1,000 miles per hour, all must conform to the curve and those motions, all must be held in place by the same power of “gravity”.

Before we go any further in our study, let us prove that…

Water has no curvature

To get a straight line, we must first get something that does not conform to any curve, in any direction, and in the least particle. What object fulfills these conditions? Thankfully, two objects can be experimentally proven to be straight, and these are the rays of light and the horizon.

If there is any doubt regarding the first object, the rays of light, take a straight stick and a lamp and try to throw a shadow around the corner of a square box. If there remains any question regarding the second one, the horizon, just see if you can look around the corner of the house with any device (try a crooked tube, if you will). (Reflection and refraction can indeed reproduce an image of an object but not the real object.)

It is worthy to note Webster’s definition of the word “straight”. He says that a “straight line is the shortest distance between two given points”. Then let us see how he defines the word “level”: “Not having one part higher than another; even, flat, smooth, horizontal;… a line everywhere parallel to the surface of still water”. Just for reference, here is his definition for a “curve” (a very good one, we must admit): “A line of which no three consecutive points are in the same straight line”.

Then if the water conforms to the supposed “curvature” of the earth, it stops being level, even, and smooth, as we can infer from his other definition. Do you see how the globe theory contradicts itself?

This being said, there is much food for thought for anyone who believes that the earth is a globe 25,000 miles in circumference if there is any curvature (or convexity) to water.

The Earth is not a globe – some points to consider

We wish all people to know what fraud has been practiced on the credulity of the unsuspecting population in the public school system. Any such idea of water curving around a ball is a hypothesis that is only a supposition and can be of no practical value to the student in real life.

The hypothesis of the earth and “planets” being in constant motion is not original to Copernicus as some suppose. Mythological tradition claims that Pythagoras (a sun-worshiper) was the inventor of the present godless adoration of these products of man’s imagination.

Perspective laws and vanishing points

It is a well-known fact that any round body vanishes or disappears visually at a distance of 3,000 times its diameter from the beholder.

“Elements of Astronomy” by R. A. Proctor gives a representation of Jupiter and its (supposed) four moons which are purported to have been seen without the aid of a telescope. This error demands exposure. Modern astronomy claims that Jupiter’s distance from the Earth is 444 million miles. The diameter given is about 87 miles. The diameter of Jupiter’s “moons” is as follows: Io – 2,263 miles; Callisto – 2,995 miles; Europa – 1,940 miles; Ganymede – 3, 273 miles.

A person may claim that he has seen these satellites with a piece of magnifying glass of no more than six or eight powers, but when we calculate the distances and dimensions, such an assertion turns out to be millions of miles more than the real facts.

The stars

Newtonian scientists place the stars at such distances from the Earth that they can hardly be fathomed. Though these numbers can be arranged on paper, reading them does not convey any practical idea to the mind. Many of the stars are purported to be so distant that should they fall to the earth and their motion shall be at 600 million miles per hour, they would travel for nearly 2 million years until they reach the earth.

Let’s suppose that the stars begin to fall today, and with the greatest imaginable speed. Millions of years must elapse before many of them would reach our world. But the Bible declares that these changes will occur suddenly, “as a thief in the night” (1 Thess. 5:2). In Matthew 24 we are told:

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Matt. 24:29-30.

Transits and eclipses vs. (a supposed) orbit of the earth

It may not be generally known that astronomers have not been able to reconcile the different motions of the “planets” to completely harmonize with their orbital theory. Since Mars is a subject of much discussion nowadays, we shall take it as an example.

Mars swings to and from, and beyond the sun while moving in its course along with the other wondering stars (as the Bible calls them) in its daily circulation above the earth, the points of which are indicated by its rise and fall from the horizon to zenith and the position of the sun.

Like other celestial lights, Mars fills an important place in the cycles of time (as marked by the heavenly bodies). The comets also play an important part (but their strangely elongated paths are in continual contradiction to Newton’s theory of gravitation).

Eclipses of the moon are caused by certain non-luminous bodies of heaven passing between the earth and the moon, recurring continually at regular intervals of about 18 years and 11 days. Seventy different eclipses repeat over the period of 18 years. This cycle of years makes up another cycle that repeats every 651 years. Thus – since eclipses repeat themselves – their calculation is brought to simplicity.

Every single eclipse from Creation can be traced with accuracy, thus proving the fact that the Bible is the most accurate and scientific book that has ever been written.

Chronology

According to the Bible account, the earth, as well as the sun, moon, and stars were created about 4,000 years before the birth of Christ, or about 6,000 years ago.

But if many of these heavenly lights are so far away that it requires almost 2 million years for them to reach the earth and (as it is claimed by today’s science) these heavenly bodies are visible to our eyes because of the light they radiated or reflected more than 2 million years ago, they must have been created at least 2 million years ago and they must have been shining for at least 2 million years now! How can we reconcile this with the Biblical account of a young earth?

The supposition that the heavenly bodies are suns and inhabited worlds is false and impossible, and certainly has no foundation in the Bible.

But the chronology of the Bible teaches that only 6,000 years have elapsed since the earth and the heavenly luminaries within its Firmament were created. And all of this was done in six literal days. See Gen. 2:1-4.

It is a most unwelcome task to try to reconcile the plain and simple account of the sacred Scriptures with the monstrous and contradictory teachings of modern theoretical astronomy.

The Bible does not simply contain the truth, but it is the truth and the whole truth. And whatever disagrees with the Bible, whether it be in the realms of morals or science, must be false.
