Bible Cosmology
The Word of God reveals to us that the place in which we live is not surrounded by vacuum but is a complicated system, that has been created especially to ensure normal conditions for the living beings. How do we learn this? We learn it from the very first verse of the Bible, where it says that God created the heavens. But the creation of a (supposed) layer consisting of air or vacuum can hardly be described with the word “made”.
The complicated structure of the Firmament that was called “heaven” is confirmed by the information that through it God divided waters from waters. Thus the waters that are above can in no way be made out of clouds, because air cannot divide anything.
Day 4 of the Creation Week
Therefore we will go directly to the information that was given to us regarding Day 4 of the Creation week, which fully confirms the Bible description of the earth.
“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.” Gen. 1:14-15.
After he created the earth and the Firmament which he called “heaven”, God commanded for lights to appear within the Firmament of heaven. They were to have several functions:
1) These lights were to be for signs. Looking unto them, everyone was to be able to know his whereabouts, no matter whether this would be needed during the day or at night.
2) They were to show the seasons – spring, summer, fall and winter.
3) They were to point the days – from sunrise to sunset.
4) They were to show the years.
5) They were to be lights in the Firmament.
6) They were to give light unto the earth.
Why aren’t the last two functions pointed first in the enumeration, but finish it, thus giving the impression that we can go without them? If we go back to what happened in the first day of Creation, we learn that there is no mistake in their enumeration, because in the time when there were no sun, moon and stars God was able to provide light to any place he would choose. It was more important for Him that we would be able to know the times, than to have a special source of energy shining above us.
The two great lights
And here we have come to one of the most important elements in God’s plan for Creation, which tells us:
“And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.” Gen. 1:16.
This verse is one of the hardest to accept for those who believe in a globe earth and exposes serious flaws in the heliocentric theory, because it is impossible to explain how the earth was lighted without a sun and was not revolving around its axis like a spinning top three days for after it came into existence.
But the following words present an even further difficulty to explain: “…and the lesser light to rule the night…”
Someone may say: “Why, there is no problem. At night the moon reflects the light of the sun and it gives this light unto the earth.” But this is not quite accurate. The moon shines with its own light, and this is not only proven by the word “rule”, but also by many other verses in the Word of God. For example:
“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood…” Rev. 6:12.
If the moon was dependent on the sun, it would be logical that when the sun would becomes black, it would also become black. But the verse informs us that it will then become as blood. Therefore, its light does not come from the sun but it is its own – emitted by the moon.
Creation of the stars
Furthermore, the verse prepares another surprise for us. In that same day, Day 4, when the sun was created, then the stars were created also. This is a blow at the heart of the Big Bang theory because it turns out that the earth has been created before the stars, and it is not a satellite to any one of them. But let us continue reading. In the next verse we are told:
“And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth…” Gen. 1:17.
This may be the strongest blow on the heliocentric theory and the globe model, because we are told that God placed the sun, moon and stars in (within the confines of) the Firmament of heaven.
Did God mean the space of 93 million miles which is the supposed distance from the earth to the sun, according to popular science? Were it so, we would have to admit that 93 million miles away, behind the sun, God placed the waters that are above the firmament!
But the verse tells us something totally different. The water is above the Firmament that was placed above the earth, and not behind the sun.
Independent light sources
However, the surprises continue, and let us see what we are told in the Genesis account:
1) The two lights – the sun and the moon – were placed within the Firmament that was called “heaven”, with the aim of giving light unto the earth. We are not told that the sun was made so that the earth would circle around it, or the moon was made to circle around the earth. We are told that both of these heavenly bodies move above the earth.
2) There is one more detail that is hard to notice but it gives a totally different idea of the earth and the heaven, because verse 16 ends with these words: “He made the stars also.” And the next verse says:
“And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.” Gen. 1:17-19.
What did God place in the Firmament of heaven? Did he place the sun and moon only, or did he place the stars also? The second possibility is more real, since in Revelation 6 we told not only that the sun and moon shall become darkened but that the powers of heaven shall be shaken. We read:
“And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.” Rev. 6:13-14.
The stars of heaven fell unto the earth? This is inexplicable for those who believe in a globe earth, not only because these bodies are far removed from the earth, but also because if a star that is as large as they are supposed to be falls to the earth, there will not remain even ashes from the place we live in. But the verses describe the literal state of things.
The heaven will depart as a scroll
The heaven shall depart. If it is vacuum, such an event cannot happen.
And then the stars (which are obviously relatively small in size) that are attached to this Firmament, will be loosened and fall unto the earth. As we keep in mind these verses that prove undoubtedly that it is impossible for the earth to be a globe and for the heaven to be a vacuum, it would be well for us to consider the words of the apostles Peter and John:
“But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.” Acts 4:19.
